One of my favourite spots in Kamloops. Gambles Pond at Albert McGowan Park on the south end of the city. Incredibly noisy and lively with a huge variety of birds living there, every inch of the place is alive.

Life in Kamloops, BC

From January to August 2014, I called the beautiful city of Kamloops, BC home. I had a co-op job at Tolko Industries as a Control Systems Specialist, frequently getting my hands (and boots) dirty at the Heffley Creek Veneer and Plywood mill 20 km north of town.

Kamloops has an absolutely stunning landscape. At first it reminded me of Alberta’s badlands, but then the grass got green as summer approached. Then it got blistering hot for weeks, turning that green grass brown again and rendering air conditioning an absolute necessity. 40 degrees Celsius, kids! Kamloops is beautiful in every season.

Winter:

A view from my house south of Kamloops along Highway 5A Technically located in Knutsford, BC, it got way more foggy and damp close to home than it did in the city.

Spring/Summer:

Kamloops Highland Games along the river. A surprise I ran into while out for a walk downtown!

Groundhogs abound in the greater Kamloops area! I saw them all the time. These two critters were running around in Riverside Park.

My work term at Tolko ended at the end of August. My helmet was well decorated by the time I left. (thanks Electricians!) 😉
